Diameter
and Wall Thickness measurement and control

Diameter
measurement
The
Logic800
and extrusion line can be upgraded to include a laser gauge and program
to display the product diameter, and if required provide closed loop
control of either the extruder, haul off or vacuum calibrator.
Wall
thickness measurement
A
further option would be to include and ultrasonic scanner to measure the
wall thickness. This is then shown graphically on the Logic800
display, and again a control output can be provided to vary extruder or
haul off speed. |

Limit
Diameter Measurement
Consists
of a micro diameter measuring head using laser optics. The head
measures across two planes without contact with the product.

The
use of solid state laser and telecentric F-Theta optics ensures high
accuracy, resolution and stability and a repeatability of 0.0003mm
|
|
Limit
displays
values
in a unique format which gives an instant indication of the product
dimensions and tolerances.
Alarm
outputs are provided to warn the operator of an out of tolerance
product, and in extreme conditions stop the production. |

Limit
Wall
Thickness Measurement
The
wall thickness is measured by an ultrasonic scanner, using water as the
transmission medium for the sound energy.

The
scanner uses 4, 6 or 8 transducers, measuring the wall at a number of
points around the circumference, giving concentricity measurement.

The
Logic800
and Limit
will process and display product
dimensions, and control process machinery. |

Limit
can include a variety of closed loop control
functions, all
based on specific inputs.
Additional
full 3 term output modules can be fitted which can directly and
very precisely control a wide variety of machinery or processes.
In
the case of diameter measurement only these output modules can be used
to control extruders, haul off's and vacuum calibrators, automatically
maintaining diameters within the correct limits. For wall thickness
control the output modules will control either the extruders or haul
off. |

the
data
produced by the limit program can
be essential.
The

can provide SPC analysis but for really powerful
data processing Logistic
and Logician
will provide all the graphical and statistical
data you require and present it in a number of professional reports |

Ultrasonic
scanners have a large number of parameters which
need to be set up before producing a new product. These parameters
are typically polarity, propagation speed, nominal wall and upper and
lower limits, etc, etc.
Setting these parameters can be time
consuming. Limit
stores all necessary set up parameters with the recipe for each
product. When a recipe for a product is loaded all these
parameters are sent automatically to the scanner control program.
This reduces set up times considerably and significantly reduces the
possibility of error. |
